Bio:

Hey there, I am Allen Amundsen, Associate Professor of Communication Studies. I started teaching at the college level in January of 2004. I have been a faculty member at San Joaquin Delta College since August 2014. Prior to joining the faculty here at Delta, I was a lecturer at Humboldt State University and an adjunct professor at the College of the Redwoods.

I teach Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Intracultural Communication, and Oral Interpretation of Literature. In public speaking I encourage students to not shy away from their speech anxiety (also known as “Glossophobia”) and instead redirect that nervous energy into an energetic vocal and nonverbal performance. In my oral interpretation of literature course, I encourage students to explore fresh perspectives and themes that can confront assumptions and expand understanding of the complexities in the human condition.

I currently serve as a senator representing Communication & Languages in the Academic Senate. For more information on senate business please visit https://www.deltacollege.edu/department/academic-senate.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my wife. At home we love to play with our rescue cats and binge watch various series on streaming services. We also like to day trips out to San Francisco Bay Area or Sacramento to find cozy used bookstores to browse in, intriguing restaurants that offer innovative flavors, or just take walks in the beautiful state parks and wildlife preserves in the area.
