About the Authors

These biographical statements were written for publication in 1998.

Rochelle A. Anderson is a student at San Joaquin Delta College. She plans to transfer to either CSU, Stanislaus, or CSU, Sacramento, in order to obtain a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in history.

Gabriela Basultowas born in East Los Angeles, and through migratory work made her way to Stockton, California. At nineteen years of age, Gabriela is determined to have a career in Art as a professor at a community college or private college. She will soon receive her associate's degree from Delta and will transfer to the University of the Pacific. She believes that the support from her family has been the deciding factor in her scholastic success. Being from a single parent home taught her how important support and following through with things is in life.

Diana Z. Blaney-Silva has been married for thirty years, has raised four sons, and enjoys spending time with her two grandsons. She is a student at Las Positas College and Delta College, majoring in Art but planning to pursue writing. She also spends time drawing and with freelance photography and secretarial services.

Lucia Cornejohas been a student at Delta College since 1992, off and on, and is working toward an AA degree in business. Eventually she would like to transfer to Stainislaus to pursue a Bachelorís Degree in Business. She enjoys life one day at a time, doing as much as possible without getting into too much trouble, loves the outdoors, and likes many sports.

Jason Durrettis a student majoring in computer science at Delta College. He enjoys traveling, investing, and playing Quake T.F. on the internet under the alias "Lee Derma Oswald". He plans to acquire his transferrable AA and complete schooling at Stanislaus State. His goal is to become a programmer at Microsoft or other major software corporations.

Lynnette Knisshas attended Delta College off and on for four years. She plans to continue her academic career and eventually become a teacher. In her spare time she likes to read. Her favorite athletic activity is playing softball.

Thomas Lechichis a computer student at Delta College. He enjoys music, playing tennis, guitar, painting, and drawing. He plans to get a good paying job and maybe become a musician. His goal is to be the best he can be.

Gisèle Manceau is a re-entry student at Delta College. She enjoys reading, writing and being with her family. Her goal is to become a bilingual teacher of French and English.

Cathy Murthawill graduate from San Joaquin Delta College this spring and plans to continue her education at Cal State Fullerton. She hopes to acquire a master's degree in English and, eventually, teach English at a junior college level. She is the mother of three wonderful children, Andrea, Marcie, and Sam and is lucky to enjoy the companionship of her five-year-old Black Labrador Guide Dog, Shadow.

Mario Ochoais currently a history major at Delta College; he enjoys spending time with his pets and brewing his own beer.

Terrie Smithis a returning student to Delta College, working on a degree in English and a minor in Computer Science. Her goal is to become a technical writer and to write books on the side. She also is raising her soon-to-be-sixteen-year-old son.

Sarah Williamsis a returning student at Delta College, working towards a degree in education and hopes to teach in an elementary school sometime before her own children reach high school. Whatever spare moments she has are spent with her two boys, although she reserves an hour or two in the middle of the night for secret vices like crocheting, reading, quilting, or dreaming about the future.
