About the Authors
These biographical statements were written for publication in 2001.
After raising her family, Carmela Brown, 50 years old, has returned to school to attain a degree in Business. She and her husband, Rex, have lived in Tracy for 17 years. For ten years, she has worked at Tracy High School, which her four children attended, but she will be changing jobs to Art Freiler Elementary School in a few weeks. Three of her children are attending college, and the one remaining will be going to Delta in the fall. Her Dalmatian, Holly, is a very special member of the family.
A re-entry student at Delta College, Lori Bruno currently resides in Woodbridge, California. After thirty years of living in her home state of Vermont, Lori moved to California with her two daughters, ages eleven and four. In her free time Lori enjoys reading, writing and traveling to new places.
Irma Diaz is a liberal studies student at Delta College. She enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with family. She plans to transfer next year to Stanislaus State University. Her goal is to become an elementary school bilingual teacher.
Mary Hernandezis married and has three children. Michael is working and continuing his studies in southern California. Rebecca is a student at Delta, and eleven-year-old Philip is a fifth grader. This is Mary's first semester at Delta College, and she is still "undecided" in her major. She lives in Stockton and enjoys reading, walking, and taking long drives.
Jennifer Lewis is currently working on her general education with plans to transfer and work in the forensic science field. She works at Applebees as a certified server and host trainer. In her spare time, she enjoys relaxing, being outdoors, and travelling.
Ken Moffettserved in the Army and did a tour in Vietnam as a military policeman. He has also worked in law enforcement and as a business executive. He returned to school full-time, majoring in social science. He hopes to teach American History at the high school level.
Dung Nguyenbelieves being an elementary school teacher will be a rewarding career. She plans to obtain a B.A. in Education at CSU Stanislaus after completing her next year at San Joaquin Delta College. She will then likely pursue a teaching credential and look for a position in a local school.
Robert Phillipshas been making books for the past 17 years, moving from the East Bay to the Valley when his employer relocated in 1984. His other interests include hiking, reading, chess, and computer science. A long-time bachelor, he views his recent marriage to wife Gloria as having helped transform his notion of the terms "home" and "spending."
Steven Pricelives in Lodi with his wife of 19 years and their two children, ages 17 and 14 years old. Steven has a career in law enforcement and has worked for the City of Lodi for 18 years. He enjoys golf, water-skiing, and travelling.
Kevin Walcottis an amateur writer who writes for himself, not necessarily to be published. He works in the Writing Lab on Delta's campus and wants to become a teacher in the future. Married to a beautiful woman for ten years, Kevin is the father of two wonderful children -- a seven-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy.
Becki Lynn Webberis 18 years old and has lived in Lodi, California, for the past 15 years. Before that she lived with her family in Oregon State. She has one older sister and owns a cat. This is her first time as a student at Delta College, and she is currently enrolled in general education courses. One day she plans to get a 2-year degree in "something" or she might possibly transfer "somewhere." In her spare time she enjoys reading, writing, cooking, and spending time with others.
Brandi A. Williamshas been attending Delta since the fall of 1998. Her goal is to graduate from the nursing program in 2003. This is her first college experience. She graduated high school with a cosmetology license and worked in the beauty industry for almost 20 years. She has been married for 12 years and has 4 children.
