Artist Statement: 

My work focuses on the fact that color is all around us, and that color can bring life into any moment. These photographs emphasize the idea that color elicits different emotions and memories, and that color itself can make anything worthwhile.

My photographs were taken with my Canon Rebel t5 camera, and none were edited. The photos are taken in broad daylight and have an exposure level of zero, while the shutter speed, aperture and ISO vary for each photograph. The photographs are colorful, and the message they hold is that the small, regular things in everyday life can be appreciated more if we took more time to understand these moments.

I am greatly influenced by philosophers, such as Aristotle, who are able to consider multiple views on ethical and moral problems, as well as being able to look closer at the way that people behave. Reading philosophical work, mainly Aristotle’s, allows me to appreciate more elements in the world around me, and helps me believe in myself, much like how many people believe in their own philosophy. Photography is an art, and art calls for an audience, who are able to react however they please. It is their interpretation of the art that is interesting, because each person has a different reaction to art, whether or not it stems from memories, behavior, or beliefs. Much like philosophy, every person has a different way of thinking, and that idea is what influenced me to take these six photos of mine.

I am a digital photography student at Delta College, and I have only picked up a camera since I started the class. I do not have plans for any of my future work in photography, as most of my photos are taken with the intent to finish an assignment. I have realized though, that taking photos of colors, everyday life, and of niche events, makes seeing and experiencing life more interesting, and is inspiring me to see if I may continue with a future in photography. I hope that these photos of mine can make others also appreciate the colors everywhere around us, and the little details in life that seem small but give a whole new meaning to life.
