Delta College Alumni Exhibition 2024
Taylor Wick
Born and raised in Stockton, California, Taylor began her journey with colored pencils at the age of six. Today, she has mastered this medium, turning it into both an art and a science. From applied pressure to pencil temperature, she delights in manipulating various factors to suit the style of each piece she creates.
Under the guidance of Steven Ponte, an influential art teacher at Lincoln High School, Taylor discovered inspiration and much-needed direction as his wisdom ignited the spark of her creativity. Additionally, under the tutelage of Professor Melanie Marshall at San Joaquin Delta College, she delved into the world of graphic design, gaining invaluable insights into composition and color usage. This dual mentorship significantly shaped her artistic voice, adding layers of depth to her visual storytelling.
As a recent graduate from University of the Pacific with a bachelor's degree in Media X, Taylor cherished her time there exploring various media with a focus on narrative expression. She is now proficient in many disciplines, including animation, 3D modeling, game design, and visual scripting.
Art, for me, is a universal language, a visual symphony that transcends the confines of words. It's a quest to create narratives that linger beyond the visual realm. Engaging with the 'canvas,' digitally or traditionally, is my exploration of emotion and narrative—a quest to breathe life into characters and evoke visceral responses. Why colored pencils, you ask? Because, obviously, life is a total cakewalk without some profound pondering, and colored pencils, those often-overlooked and misunderstood gems, just couldn't resist showing off their enigmatic charm to draw me in.
In this series, characters from a collaborative video game project materialize—a creative odyssey shaped under the leadership of my former UOP professor, and now esteemed colleague, Joshua Salyers. My aim is to delve into the very essence of these individuals, exploring their depths and intricacies. Laden with symbolism, the works invite viewers to interpret, ponder, and lose themselves in the enigmatic world each character unveils. Or not. Just enjoy the pretty colors and stuff.
