Filipino American History Month Celebration

Saturday, October 12, 2024, FAHM Fest sponsored by Delta College!

October is Filipino American History Month (FAHM). The first FAHM event was celebrated in 1992 and recognized by U.S. Congress in 2009. Delta College’s FAHM FEST dedicates this year to the founders of FAHM and the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS), Dr. Dorothy Cordova and her late husband and Stockton native, Dr. Fred Cordova.

FAHM FEST 24 and the History Symposium, which will be held on Sat., Oct. 12, 2024, from 8am – 6pm, recognizes & celebrates the contributions and resiliency of the Filipino American community that has been an integral part of Stockton-San Joaquin for over one hundred years.

At 8am, early goers can enjoy a continental breakfast in Danner Hall, which will also feature history exhibits by the FANHS Stockton Chapter & the FANHS National Museum.

From 8:30-10:30am, the "Know History, Know Self Symposium", will be held in the Dawn Mabalon Forum. The symposium features dynamic speakers discussing immigration, voting rights, and the movement to teach Ethnic Studies in Stockton. Teachers, students, and community activists are encouraged to attend and not only learn history but to make history!

From 11am-6pm, the main stage on Dolores Huerta Plaza opens FAHM FEST 24.  Headlining the live entertainment this year is Recording Artist TALILO MARFIL, a West Bisayan, Filipino-American Hip Hop Artist residing in Portland Oregon, known for illustrating social issues, cultural island heritage, and grit through his dynamic rhyme schemes and choppy lyrics.

TALILO headlines an afternoon program that includes exciting live performances by local singers, musicians, Filipino and Polynesian dancers, and a Filipino fashion show. Retail merchants will sell Filipino themed items such as jewelry, clothing, and art. Food trucks and vendors will sell traditional and fusion Filipino cuisine.

Delta’s Asian Pacific Islander American Staff Association (APIASA) is sponsoring a Children’s Corner for fun arts & crafts for the kids. Programs in Electron Microscopy, Political Science, Nursing, Kaiser Hospital, and the Stockton/SJ Police Departments will provide valuable information about education programs and job opportunities.

Organizers encourage attendees to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy the show along with friends and family!

This is a FREE FAMILY EVENT.  ALL AGES ARE WELCOME!
