Biography:

I am an undergraduate student at Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata California. I am originally from Stockton and a former student at San Joaquin Delta college. I am in the process of completing my BFA from Cal Poly Humboldt. I plan to pursue an MFA after completing my undergraduate degree. I am a studio art major and my focus is in both ceramics and sculpture, although ceramics is my main focus.

Artist Statement:

My recent work is focused around classical wheel thrown forms with additions of delicate gold luster accents. The designs on my ceramics are influenced directly from my professional and childhood background in traditional henna adornment. There is something really satisfying in spending so much time trying to make something look really perfect or pretty and then working really hard on destroying it, in a delicate way. What does it mean? Not sure, maybe it symbolizes how we’re slowly breaking but still beautiful? Maybe it’s about how we’re all “screwed up”? Or maybe it’s just a nice set of fancy looking pots with a bunch of screws in them just trying to hold the pieces together.
