Visions In Clay 2024
Jenny Lauck (she/her)
My name is Jenny Lauck, and I'm a ceramic artist and storyteller.
Creativity has always been part of my self-expression from my earliest childhood memories. My childhood in the 1970s and 1980s was full of self-led exploration and creative play. I believe my resilience and innate joie de vivre is a product of my upbringing as part of the last “free range” generation.
Following a diagnosis of ADHD in my late 40s, I embarked on a journey to reclaim my creative spirit. I’ve thrown myself into a variety of creative pursuits and have found a real passion for playing with mud.
I’ve always been a bit of a magpie, collecting shiny objects, interesting tales, and talismans. My ceramic sculptures are inspired by folklore, archeology, the natural world, and creatures of all kinds. I employ simplistic shapes and quirky details to spark imagination and invite interaction. I love to play with scale and surfaces to create a sense of whimsy and wonder.
Inspired by ornate wood and brass bell chairs crafted in India, Wind Throne is intended to grace a breezy garden. The weathered finish and rough textures ground the throne in weight and age, while the bells create a joyful cacophony as moving air brushes through the back and arms.
