Visions In Clay
September 4 - 21, 2018
Sharon Harper
In my work I look at the human condition through my personal experiences with love, loss, prejudice, emotional intimidation and self-acceptance and most recently physical change and loss.
When working in clay I choose forms that can depict my ideas with an efficiency of gesture to depict my pre-determined visual scenario. I use a combination of planning and serendipity as the material demands. to reflect the ongoing process of evolving with thought and adapting I introduce layers of texture, or the inclusion of a disparate element, or a glaze that allows for a visual layer. This process allows for the multiple thoughts or feelings to be synchronous and affect one another to read simultaneously and hopefully communicate my feeling.
