Marti Schoen’s figurative ceramic sculptures express emotion and narrative through attention to details, texture and movement. Glazes, underglazes and mason stains are layered abstractly, anticipating that unexpected fluxes will emerge when fired. Marti majored in art and psychology at State University of New York, New Paltz and San Francisco State University. Her sculpture “Raven Berry” was inspired by the Native American myth that the raven can transport a red berry from a tree in the spirit world, guiding a human soul away from wrongdoing and back into the Light.
