Visions In Clay 2019
Dan Molyneux
This series of slab-built work is about reflecting the natural world through geometrical expressionism, a space where the viewer can perceive the work in a personal way while relating on a level beyond language and rationale. By generating sculptures based on combinations of elemental shapes, my aim is for the sculpture to resonate through both its formal and more universal qualities.
Bio- Molyneux first apprenticed with a sculptor in Bangalore, India, while pursuing his undergraduate degree in comparative religion, anthropology, and languages. After subsequent art studies in Japan and Jerusalem he moved on to working in a ceramics studio in Hangzhou, China. In 2006 he moved to Ithaca, NY, where he taught Arabic and introductory ceramics at the Cornell University pottery studio. In 2007, he started an 18-month artist residency at the Cub Creek Foundation in Virginia, followed by 3 years as studio manager at Gustin Ceramics in S. Dartmouth, MA. Dan has been invited to various national and international residencies including Denmark, France, Quebec City and the Netherlands.
