Visions In Clay 2019
Berit Hines
I approach the composition of my work with spontaneity and immediacy, discovering the form during the process of making it. My motto is (after Paul Klee): “Listening to what your hands want to make”.
My work continues to explore form, using surface decorations and texture as an integral part of the piece. I use hand building and throwing techniques to create series of one of a kind vessels and sensual sculptural forms in stoneware.
I am inspired by the natural world. My visual and tactile vocabulary derives from minimalist traditions of my European background. I want my work to evoke an emotional and sensory response. I pursue this in my choice of form, as well as refinement of the surface quality.
The piece “Spume” depicts my love for the ocean in color, movement and texture.
