Contemporary Portrait Photography 2019
Jiaxuan Wang
Photography is the best tool for me to approach my parents. As we consistently travel between Melbourne, Beijing, and San Francisco, I feel the meaning of going home is no longer about meeting with family. On the other hand, I have developed fear of my father since childhood.
I have been keeping a secret from my father for years. I cannot imagine what if he finds out the tattoo that covered my back. Temporarily living in Chicago give me a chance to review back to myself, and a private space where I do not need to hide my secret. One question leads to another, I am now, exploring the boundary of self-representation, and searching for answers.
