Bio:

My name is Michael R Lawrence. I am currently a high school CTE Instructor. I also teach Administration of Justice courses at San Joaquin Delta College. Before transitioning to teaching, I worked as a Youth Correction Counselor with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). While going through the application process I was offered a position with San Francisco PD, Oakland PD, and the CDCR. I selected the CDCR with the career goal of becoming a Parole Officer. Prior to beginning my career in law enforcement, I worked in Retail Management. I have three children and a turtle.

I decided to enter the field of corrections: Wanted to work with underserved and troubled youth in a way that left a positive impact.

The most unusual job I’ve ever had was: I was employed with Bill Graham Presents, which allowed me to travel the San Francisco Bay Area getting paid to attend concerts and hang out with musicians.

The hardest thing I’ve ever done was: Take responsibility and find a way to move forward.

My favorite way to relax is: I enjoy a coffee, music, and a drive. I also find time to get outdoors and enjoy some of the local natural beauty.

My favorite meal: Either pizza or tacos

You’d be surprised to learn that: I played high school football against Tom Brady, he beat us, twice.

I’m most proud of: My three children

One item from my bucket list: To visit Hawaii, get into a shark cage, and observe sharks in their habitat.

My motto is: “Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right.” - Henry Ford

If there’s one piece of advice I’d like to give to anyone considering corrections as a career is: Develop healthy work habits, more importantly, develop a healthy lifestyle that allows you to separate work from life.
