Bio:

Hello and welcome! I am Dana DeMercurio, Associate Professor of Communication Studies. I have been teaching as a part-time instructor at Delta College since 2017 along with other community colleges and K-12 districts in the Northern California region for the past decade. I am excited to be the newest full-time member of the department as I continue to share my passion for teaching and communication with my students. Did I mention I am an alumna of Delta College? Right after high school graduation I enrolled at Delta - one of the best life decisions I have ever made! I graduated with an Associate of Arts majoring in English Literature and two certificates in Real Estate and Business Management. The instructors, administrators and staff here at Delta helped me achieve my dream, and I’m paying it forward to my students every day!

As a professor of communication here at Delta, I teach for the 21st century learner. Creativity and innovation, critical thinking and research fluency, cultural competence and ethical awareness are at the heart of my curriculum and teaching style. Together as a class, my students and I co-create a learning environment that promotes confidence, collaboration and diversity of thought through sharing stories and information to enhance the higher education experience. In my classes, students are not just consumers, they are innovators!

In my new role, I am looking forward to continuing to give back to our college and its amazing students, particularly with future service working on meeting the basic needs of students such as food, transportation and housing.

As a native Stocktonian and current resident, giving back to my community-at- large is just as important, which is why I serve as a board member for Stockton Friends of the Public Library. We are a non-profit volunteer organization that supports and promotes literacy and library programs for the Stockton-San Joaquin County library system. We provide funds for a vast array of library programs, outreach materials and equipment such a computers and printers found in the libraries around the county.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, friends and family, traveling the world, reading a good book and rummaging through thrift stores and flea markets for vintage gems. You can find me at Delta College’s flea markets on the weekend for sure!

I look forward to having you as a student in the near future.
