Artist Statement:

Homelessness represents both a policy problem and a political quandary in the United States. In the wealthiest economy in the world, the fact that individuals and families lack housing and must live and beg on the streets, calls into question the basic functioning of the social safety net and suggests that something is deeply wrong with the political and economic priorities of the country.  

My selected piece, “Merge Left,” addresses the invisible relationship between politics and people, attempting to explore the attitudes, biases, and opinions that shape the debate.  Is homelessness a left or right issue, liberal or conservative, Democrat or Republican?   

Biography

As a photographer by passion and not trade, Elizabeth Kayl is intrigued by both the ordinary and extraordinary. Elizabeth has had her work included into juried gallery shows in 30 different US states and in 3 international countries in 2020 and 2021 to date. Elizabeth has recently won a Juror’s Award for Best in Show, a First Place Award and a Visitor’s Choice in two galleries in the US.   By day, she is employed as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the beautiful art-inspired City of Loveland, Colorado.
