Visions In Clay 2019
Stephanie M. Wilhelm
find inspiration in the history of decorative ceramics moving beyond conventional function and form, creating union between shape, ornamentation, and story. The functional body of work I create reunites me with my potter’s wheel and challenges me to alter the thrown shapes and explore form and volume. Each piece has layers of pattern and texture that call attention to the form, provide visual direction, and emphasize depth in it’s decorative surface.
My work is an effort to express ideas of comfort, form, and ornamentation; and consists of new approaches in process, pattern, and surfaces. I am continually investigating how my surfaces provide challenge and satisfaction for me as a maker while providing joy or a sense of nostalgia and comfort for those that experience it.
