Visions In Clay 2019
Linda S. Fitz Gibbon
Child’s Play, Hit & Run uses iconic toys and stereotypes to show the battle of nature vs nurture. These hand-built ceramic symbols of obsolete objects point to many issues that plague our society: gender and race relations, gun violence, the #MeToo movement, communication, and the preservation of cultures.
Born in New York, lives and works in Woodland, CA. Fitz Gibbon has an MFA in Visual Arts from the Art Institute of Boston/Lesley University, and BA from Yale University. She was awarded a merit scholarship for the Vermont Studio Center, June 2019 and 2017 and was Artist in Residence at Anderson Ranch Art Center, CO, spring 2010. A dedicated educator in her community, Fitz Gibbon teaches ceramics at Cosumnes River College, Sacramento, CA and in local schools for YoloArts. Her work is in the collection of five museums including the Crocker Art Museum and UC Davis Manetti Shrem Museum, CA. Publications include Confrontational Ceramics, 500 Figures in Clay: Volumes I & II, Ceramics Art and Perception, and Ceramics Monthly.
