Visions In Clay
September 4 - 21, 2018
Matthew Patton
The tray selected to this year's Visions in Clay exhibition is in a newer style that is inspired for me by my long standing admiration of the work and legacy of west coast ceramic great, Robert Sperry. As in his work this piece is fired twice to the maturing temperature of the black background glaze. The second firing re-melts the black glaze thus serving to adhere the white cracked “glaze” that is applied between the firings. This allows tremendous latitude to edit the glaze design and final composition. The clay is the glaze, the glaze is the clay!
