Visions In Clay
September 4 - 21, 2018
Guillermo Guardia
My artwork deals with political, social and personal issues. It is influenced by current events and places I have lived.
“Self Portrait” was the first of a new series of portraits made during early 2017 while I was still living in North Dakota. In my last year living there I decided to work on the idea of portraying minorities and other community members in these troublesome times.
The first 3 portraits included; my self portrait to represent immigrants, my friend Todd to represent the LGTBQ community and my friend Sara to represent strong, independent women.
The series is intended to expand and portrait other minorities.
The portraits are wall pieces and covered with Mochica designs. Mochica was a Peruvian pre-Columbian culture that flourished 200 AD-900 AD. The faces are colorful, fearless, and powerful as if they were ancient gods.
