Currently, my ceramic sculptural work explores the creation of form through the accumulation of parts and fragments drawn from everyday life.  Employing abstraction and archetypal shapes, my work expresses the human condition of the visual iconographic landscape of progressing society I therefore focus on a mix of architectural ornament, exposed layers of earth, engineered forms, discarded byproduct and fragmented industrial parts.  These shapes represent a relevance to the present, but are bound by industrial history. I have become fascinated by the simultaneous accumulation of both new and old which overlaps itself as decades pass.

After growing up in Appleton, Wisconsin, Nicolas Darcourt received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Northern Michigan University, and in 2006, his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. From 2007 to 2009 he was a resident artist at the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts. His ceramic work has been shown both nationally and internationally, and belongs to a number of private collections. Nicolas is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Art and Art History Department at Gustavus Adolphus College.  Nicolas, his wife and son live in Minnetonka, Minnesota, where he has a home studio.
