Dr. Phillip Hutcheon

Philip Hutcheon earned a B.A. with majors in English and French at Pacific and a Ph.D. in English at Rice University. His dissertation examined the tragic vision of Joseph Conrad and William Faulkner. He taught at Menlo College for fifteen years, chairing the Department of English there from 1979-1989. He came to Delta College in 1990. He teaches English 1A and English 30, Film as Literature. His fiction focuses on the intersection of sports, race, and romance in contemporary college life. His first novel, Nobody Roots for Goliath, was Midwest Book Review's "Reviewer's Choice" for January 2007. His second novel, Desperation Passes, received a rating of "very highly recommended" from Midwest Book Review in April 2015.
