Visions In Clay 2024
Brad Blair
Brad Blair is an artist, educator and gallery coordinator living in Baltimore, Maryland. He earned an M.F.A. degree from Florida State University (FSU) focusing on ceramics and sculpture. Prior to FSU, he graduated from Towson University with a B.S. degree, majoring in Art & Design. Aside from making artwork and exhibiting it nationally, Blair is an adjunct professor of ceramics at Towson University, gallery curator and ceramics instructor at Manor Mill Gallery, and an avid explorer of nature. Using his sense of creativity, imagination, and patience, Blair builds detailed sculptures to open the minds of viewers into a different reality, the unknown.
My curiosity for the unknown, combined with an inquisitive mindset and strong imagination, has led me to ponder the possibility of divergent entities existing within our ever-expanding universe. These thoughts drive my creative process forward and allow new ideas to rise. Primarily made from clay, my sculptures also include other elements which are added with great attention to detail. These non-clay parts adorn the works and either blend seamlessly, or strongly contrast the ceramic form, adding visual interest and unique juxtapositions. My otherworldly artworks provoke wonder and examination, generating an intangible human experience through curiosity, caution, attraction and fear. While some works are symbolic of situations encountered around our world, all of these obscure oddities help convey a message regarding this mysterious life we live, in a universe yet to be fully explored.
