Verizon Innovative Learning program at Delta College
STEM camp to inspire girls for promising future careers
May 18, 2021

STOCKTON -- Every girl deserves access to a better future.

This summer, Delta College joins Verizon Innovative Learning in introducing middle school-aged girls to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), giving them a taste of the skills they'll need to someday pursue a career in these fast-growing areas.

There's still time to sign up for the free program. More details below.

Who?
Middle school girls currently in fifth through seventh grades, from schools across Delta's service area, are eligible.

When?
The course starts with a 3-week summer camp June 14-July 2, 2021. The daily schedule is Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and Fridays 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. The summer camp is followed by one session per month on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. throughout the school year.

Where?
Students will be on the Delta College campus either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. On the days they are not on campus, the virtual camp will be available with content for students to work on at their own pace. On Friday mornings, all students will be virtual with guest speakers and other activities lined up.

Why?
Only 12% of engineers and 22% of computer professionals are women. The goal of the Verizon Innovative Learning program is to give girls the tools to pursue all available opportunities.

More:
- Snacks and lunch will be provided at no cost.
- Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation to and from Delta College. If assistance with transportation costs is needed, a nominal gas card will be provided to the parent/guardian of the registered student.
