STOCKTON – Fans can now attend Delta College athletics events free of charge, part of a broader invitation to the community to come to campus and explore what Delta has to offer. 

Ticket fees for sports like football, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, wrestling, basketball, baseball, and softball had already been waived as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Now Delta has secured support from community sponsors allowing the free admission policy for home games to continue for at least two years. 

The announcement comes after Delta College in 2019 eliminated fees for College-organized performing arts events like concerts and plays, making those events free as well. 

“We would love for the community to come out and see all the positives that are going on at Delta,” said Athletics Director Tony Espinoza. “Coming out of COVID has been a struggle for many, whether financially, emotionally, or physically. To have this opportunity for families in the community I think is just great. 

“I want to especially thank our sponsors, the Port of Stockton and Central State Credit Union, for making this possible,” Espinoza added.

Delta has one of the best athletics programs in the state, consistently ranking in the top 10 in California across all sports as a whole. Student athletes also see high levels of success in the classroom, with about 100 student athletes transferring to universities each year, and rates of retention that are higher than the general student population at Delta. 

The free admission policy applies to all regular season games and tournaments, but not postseason games since those are governed by the California Community College Athletic Association. 

In the past, ticket prices have ranged from $6 to $8. Eliminating the fees altogether gives families an entirely free form of entertainment. 

“We’re excited,” said Espinoza, who is not aware of any other community college districts waiving athletics ticket fees. “I would love to see more families, more future Delta students get a chance to watch the Mustangs in action.”
