Artist Statement:
My creative practice is an intersection of material studies and sculptural ceramics. I utilize the human body as a site for exploration of cultural norms, bodily functions, and ideals around beauty and the grotesque. I am searching for the boundaries of the body: where does the inside stop being the inside? I investigate our internal commonalities, the organs we share. I transform materials such as fabric, yarn, thread, and rugs into protruding viscera and textured membranes. The absurdity of my forms alleviates an anxiety about being a body. I combat abjection through humorous lumps and celebrate our bodies. Jasmine Peck is a sculptural ceramic artist with a creative practice that also includes performance, installation, and drawing
Peck received her BFA from the University of Wyoming, with an emphasis in ceramics. She then went on to receive her MFA from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.
