Visions In Clay
September 4 - 21, 2018
Kathy White
A native Californian, I have worked with clay for more than 40 years and professionally for 20 years. My training began in community college ceramics programs. I have continued training in advanced courses in various Northern California art facilities and summer workshops at Sierra Nevada College, Nevada.
An award-winning artist, I am inspired by the unlimited forms and techniques of using clay. Treating clay with respect and working with it in its many stages, is not only an art creation, it is a process of patience, diligence, challenges and constant learning.
My two entries in the 2018 Visions in Clay exhibition are both fired in a fast-fire Raku kiln. They are removed when from the kiln when red hot and placed in a combustion chamber for smoking the glazed and unglazed areas the piece. Raku is a low-fire process, first developed by Korean potters under Japanese rule in the 16th century. Raku pieces are decorative or sculptural and do not hold water.
My hope is that my pottery will enrich people’s lives through their beauty, whether functional or decorative.
