Visions In Clay
September 4 - 21, 2018
Dan Molyneux
This series of slab-built work is about reflecting the natural world through geometrical expressionism, a space where the viewer can perceive the work in a personal way while relating on a level beyond language and rationale. By generating sculptures based on combinations of elemental shapes, my aim is for the sculpture to resonate through both its formal and more universal qualities. Both Caldas and Iron Saturate Teapot, on exhibit at Visions In Clay, are fired in a wood kiln where wood ash deposits accentuate the line quality of the sculptures. Dan was first introduced to wood firing while apprenticing with a sculptor in Bangalore, India. He later sharpened those atmospheric firing skills at an 18-month residency at the Cub Creek Foundation, 3 years as the studio manager for Chris Gustin, and an MFA under John Balistreri at Bowling Green State University. Dan has been invited to artist residencies throughout the US, in Denmark, the UK, France and the Netherlands. His work is regularly exhibited both nationally and internationally.
