Visions In Clay 2024
Berkley Jane Skeer (preferably Janey)
Berkley Jane Skeer has a Masters in Fine Arts in ceramics from the University of Denver. Working as a studio artist for over 30 years, Skeer initially focused on texture for both functional and sculptural clay forms. Her work grew into mixed media combinations of clay, steel and found objects. Using a plasma torch, she cut and welded steel into organic and geometric shapes that became handles for clay boxes. Imprints from steel stamps pounded into clay slabs defined shapes and boundaries. This process is visible in individual tiles and notable in the clay assemblage seen in Urban Warfare. Skeer continues working with clay for both functional and sculptural pieces. The possibilities are infinite.
In addition to her studio work, special projects include demonstrations, workshops and presentations at the Denver Art Museum plus making Pre-Columbian ceramic replicas for the Denver Art Museum. She has been an artist-in-residence for local private schools plus instructed and installed 7 large tile murals in their new school facilities. Teaching opportunities at the University of Denver, Denver Art Museum, Metropolitan State University of Denver, Arapahoe Community College, the Arvada Center, local and regional school districts for artists, educators, and students has been exciting.
Currently she is teaching at the Art Students League of Denver.
