Visions In Clay 2024
Abraham Alvarez (he/him)
Abraham Alvarez is a Stockton based artist whose work explores identity and self-discovery through the process of making. His interest in using the medium of clay as a meditative process informs the forms and textures achieved. Abraham received his BA in Studio Art from UC Davis and has been doing ceramics since 2019, his work has previously been shown at L.H Horton Jr. Gallery and CCACA.
I am interested in exploring themes of duality in my work and the many ways in which we define ourselves and the world around us in binaries. Duality: Cycles is a representation of life and death, endings and beginnings, and of time itself all of which is unavoidable and notions I struggle to face.
My work is deeply inspired by pre-colonial Mesoamerican art and their depictions of the human form. I seek to connect with my heritage and listen to the mark making passed down from my ancestors to contextualize themes I want to explore in a contemporary setting.
