Public Art in Public Places is a non-commercial, not-for-profit arts organization publishing official public art data as a free and open public benefit. Public Art in Public Places produces one of the largest and most accurate archives of permanent public art in more than 200 cities and communities throughout Los Angeles, Southern California, and Hawaii. To date, Public Art in Public Places has incorporated data on more than 3,000 public sculptures, murals, statues, and station art, as well as public monuments, landmarks, and memorials. 

The Watts Towers were called "Nuestro Pueblo" ("Our Village" in Spanish) by their creator, Simon Rodia. He built the entire site, including his residence, the towers, sculptures, structures, and mosaics, by hand over a 33-year period. The Watts Towers site is classified as a Historical Landmark and a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
