Our Goals

The goal of the EPICenter is to motivate and prepare today’s Asian American and Pacific Islander students to become tomorrow’s AAPI leaders through classes and activities that foster educational achievement, personal empowerment, and civic engagement. Our objectives are to identify, recruit, support, and increase the number of AAPI students who complete an Associate’s Degree and transfer to a four-year university.

Community Agreement for the Empowering Positive Initiatives for Change Center

The Empowering Positive Initiative for Change Center is a safe space for all students who want to engage and build community here at San Joaquin Delta College. To ensure this space is safe for everyone, we have a set of community guidelines that are intended to cultivate a community of respect and care. Everyone is expected to adhere to these guidelines in addition to the standards of student conduct. Violations of these guidelines may jeopardize your access to this space.

What We Offer

The Space

  • No swearing – some individuals are sensitive to harsh language.
  • No hateful language (no racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist language, or language that disparages a whole group of people).
  • Everyone is expected to clean up after themselves and anyone in their care. This is a shared community space, lets treat it with the care and respect it deserves.
  • Students, with the exception of student staff, will not be able to leave any personal items in the center. Items found will be put in a lost-and-found and periodically given over to the Delta Police Department.
  • Be mindful of your noise level. Some students use this space to de-stress or study. We want to respect their use of the space too.
  • No video recording or picture taking without consent from individuals in the space. We want to make sure people are comfortable using the space without the pressure to be on camera.

The Laptops

  • When using the computer, do not look up inappropriate content. Be mindful of the videos and images you pull up on the computer.
  • Use headphones when playing audio from a computer, your laptop, or phone. This helps with the noise level.

The Relationships

  • Keep conversation topics appropriate. We think it’s great you feel comfortable talking openly in this space, but be mindful of others who are here.
  • Respect people’s boundaries. When someone says you’ve crossed the line, back up, apologize, and learn.
  • Handle personal conflicts privately without having it impact the rest of the people in the space.
  • If you are willing and able, greet others in the space. A simple hello can make someone feel welcome, especially if they are new.
  • If you’re concerned about the well-being of another student, feel free to tell one of the staff members so we can make sure they are getting the support they need
