Math and English assessment exams are no longer required for all students.
AB 705 is a law that requires California Community Colleges to maximize the probability that a student will enter and complete transfer-level coursework in English and Math within a one-year timeframe. For information about AB705 watch this video: AB705.
Delta College will place students into English and Math courses using one or more of the following:
- High school coursework
- High school grades
- High school grade point average
- Guided self-placement
Changes to Placement
Instead of taking an assessment exam, Delta students will have the following options for placement:
If you graduated from high school in the last 10 years, your English and Math placement will be determined by the information you provide on your online application for admission to Delta College.
Your English and Math placement will be available in the Online Registration system, under the records tab.
If you do not have a high school record within the last 10 years, you may take the guided self-placement. Guided self-placement is an activity that provides an opportunity to choose the course(s) most suitable for you. This tool will be available in late spring of 2019.
- If you are an ESL Student, you need to complete the ESL Assessment Exam.
Current Delta Students
Current students are also eligible for these new placement methods. If you are a current and/or returning student, you can self-report your high school coursework, grades, and GPA. If you receive a higher placement using the new placement methods, you will be allowed to enroll in the higher level course. If you believe your placement will improve using your high school GPA and courses, complete the form below and return it to the Assessment Center.
