The SJDC CalWORKs program provides services to students who are receiving cash assistance from the Human Services Agency. We currently provide funds to support CalWORKs' outreach initiatives with the goal of expanding access to its services.
In the effort to improve the transfer rates of Foster Youth students who attend four-year universities, student equity resources were used to hire a manager and support staff whom will work to strengthen the support for Foster Youth students at Delta College.
Delta's MESA program provides academic support to first-generation, low-income college students in STEM fields. We currently provide resource support to supplement services, including a Resource Specialist, Administrative Support, Embedded Tutoring, Textbook Support. Additionally, current efforts are underway to embed tutors into the MESA Center as an additional academic support component to improve student success.
The Pride Center
To strengthen support for our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning students, Student Equity provided resources for the establishment of the Pride Center. The Pride Center provides programming and educational outreach to improve the campus climate for LGBTQIA+ individuals as well as advocate for the respect and safety of all members of the campus community.
The Phoenix Project
Student Equity is leading the charge in developing a program to coordinate resources for formerly incarcerated students. Working with members of Student Services, counseling, EOPS, and Foster Youth programs, our goal is to create partnerships across campus and with the community in order to strengthen the academic, social and economic support for Delta College students transition from incarceration to student and community members.
EOPS has a long history of success in supporting first-generation and low-income students. Current efforts are underway to ensure Student Equity supplements the academic support of the students with embedded tutors and the expansion of the EOPS Summer Readiness Program — a highly successful program designed to prepare students for college and ensure first-years success, and beyond.
Delta College’s Learning Communities each provide comprehensive wrap-around services to assist specific demographics, with the goal of transfer to a 4-year college. Student Equity has supported efforts to embed tutors as an additional academic support component into existing Learning Communities — AFFIRM, support for African American students in particular, and Puente, assisting Hispanic Latino students. Additionally, we supported the pilot development of a new learning community to support Asian student success, in particular, Filipino and Southeast Asian identified students.
Veteran Resource Center
The Veteran Resource Center supports our student veterans make their transition to civilian life as students. Additionally, they offer key services to our military/veteran-connected family members. Student Equity has supported the hiring of key staff, resource support, and currently provides on-going technical support to the center. Additionally, we are supporting the development of a student services model to better identify additional Veteran students to enroll in the program.
Student Equity Resource Fund Request
The Student Equity Resource Fund Request is a temporary program that provides one-time funding for: Delta College students to support their education expenses, campus-based programs that directly address the Student Equity plan for eligible populations, professional development and/or training for campus faculty and staff that directly addresses the Student Equity plan for eligible populations.
