(En)gendered Agency Exhibition: October 12 – November 3, 2023
Exhibition & Events Free & Open to the Public
(En)gendered Agency is an exhibition of work in printmaking, painting, ceramic sculpture, fiber arts, and mixed media. The exhibition will open with a Gallery Reception on Thursday, October 12, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., that includes a dance party, Queer Joy, with music by DJ Leo Marquez, in celebration of National Coming Out Week. In addition, artists Jessica Sabogal and Shanna Strauss will present a talk about their work in printmaking and public art.
(En)gendered Agency presents a group of women artists exploring core expressions of agency: mindfulness, leadership, and intentional action. Each artist approaches their personal and collective agency through an intersectional identity lens, including gender expression, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, culture, social and economic status, and their individual artistic practice. The resulting artwork promotes advocacy for social change and empowerment.
Engendered (to develop, cause, or give rise to) Gendered (as determined by gender identity) Agency (to take action in or control over one’s life).
