Harry J. Mersmann, Ph.D. is a Professor of Sociology who earned his B.A. in Psychology from Reed College and his Doctorate in Social Ecology form UC Irvine. He currently teaches Sociology 1A Introduction to Sociology, Sociology 1B Problems of a Changing Society, Sociology 5 Sociology of the Family, and Sociology 27 Gender in Contemporary Society. Before coming to Delta, he taught all of the above courses in addition to courses in Men and Masculinity, Sociology of Sports, Research Methods, Victimless Crimes, and the Sociology of Disneyland.

Professor Mersmann has presented papers and has continuing interest in the areas of gender, masculinities, sexuality, and popular culture (with an emphasis on Disney and professional wrestling). In the recent past, he has served as the adviser to the Gay Straight Alliance club here on campus, has been a division rep. and first vice president of the CTA and currently serves on the campus wide Planning and Budget Committee.
