Planning for the Future: A Proposed Bond Measure

Delta College is a top destination for local students wishing to learn a new trade, upgrade their skills, or earn affordable transfer units to four-year colleges and universities.

With the rising cost of higher education, Delta College ensures affordable, local access to quality education and an opportunity to succeed in college and future careers - especially for those who can’t afford the high price of attending UC or CSU. Tuition at Delta College is free for first-time, full-time students, and graduates of some Delta programs on average see their income double or even triple after college.

To ensure Delta College can continue to provide top-notch services to students and the community, the Board of Trustees has decided to place a new facilities bond measure on the November 2024 ballot. Delta College provides the job training, technical knowledge and specialized skills needed to compete for good-paying, modern careers

The Career & Technical Education (CTE) and Workforce Development Division works with Delta College students, faculty, staff and the local community to train our students to become qualified, skilled workers, equipped to seek gainful employment in local industries, including nursing and other medical professions, law enforcement, agriculture, robotics, and engineering, to name a few. For example, Delta College trains more than 400 healthcare workers each year to fill critical jobs in our community. Altogether, this essential workforce preparation helps Delta College pump more than $570 million into the local economy each year in the form of alumni earnings and spending.

Aging classrooms, labs, facilities and instructional technology need critical upgrades, repairs and health/safety improvements

Removal of hazardous materials including lead paint, asbestos and mold, repair leaky roofs and deteriorating restrooms, replace outdated electrical systems, and upgrade security and fire safety systems.

November 2024 Bond Measure

To address these challenges and continue providing high-quality, affordable, local education, the Delta College Board of Trustees has decided to place a local college improvement bond measure on the November 2024 ballot. This measure would cost homeowners approximately $16 annually per $100,000 of assessed (not market) value, generating $598 million in locally-controlled funding to:

Fix old plumbing and continue to provide clean drinking water
Repair leaky roofs and remove asbestos, lead paint, and mold
Improve student safety on campus
Upgrade classrooms and labs for career technical education programs to prepare students to enter the workforce
Prepare students to transfer to four-year colleges and universities

Local Oversight and Accountability

A bond measure will require a clear system of accountability, including a project list detailing exactly how the money will be used, public disclosure of all spending, an independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee, and annual financial and performance audits to ensure funds are spent as promised to local voters.
