Goleman Learning Resource Center

Irving Goleman Learning Resource Center Open for Business!

The renovation of the Irving Goleman Learning Resource Center completed its work during the summer of 2010. The library opened its doors to students on August 16th, the first day of Delta's Fall 2010 Semester. Students immediately noticed the beautiful aesthetics of the new exterior design. The Irving Goleman Library features state-of-the-art improvements that will create a technologically advanced information center. Library staff is busy "fine tuning" the new study areas, classrooms and services. The goal: Create an atmosphere conductive to study and modern information retrieval.

The 50,000 sq. ft. library includes: 15 group study rooms, a faculty reading room, two small classrooms that can be converted into one large classroom, space for the college archives, and new furniture for all public areas. The renovation allowed the building to gain an additional 7,000 square feet for library services, with room for 66 computers in the Reference/Information Commons area.

"The ideas and planning for this renovated library started with many hours of consultation with the library staff, library users, and student surveys," says Dr. Evia Moore, former Dean of Library Services. Dr. Moore saw the renovation through to completion, retiring earlier this summer. "We believe we have incorporated all the needs of the students and faculty in this building." Dr. Moore emphasizes, "Our primary focus was to design a building that will enhance students' learning and research. I believe we have accomplished that goal."

The Goleman Learning Resource Center is named after the late Dr. Irving Goleman, a brilliant Delta teacher and thinker who believed no one was truly educated without experiencing the liberal arts. The official dedication ceremony is tentatively scheduled for late Fall Semester 2010.
