August 16, 2018

STOCKTON -- Hundreds of Delta College students will share $225,000 in scholarship money this month, thanks to the support of community donors.

In total, nearly $6.5 million has been awarded to Delta students since the College's annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony began in 1980. The money is instrumental to helping students fulfill their dreams of obtaining a college education and building better lives for themselves and their families.

The ceremony for the 2018-19 academic year is scheduled for 4 p.m. Aug. 22 at Atherton Auditorium, with a reception to follow at Upper Danner Hall. The public is welcome.

"The College staff and our student recipients are exceedingly grateful for the generous support of our community partners and individual donors, many of whom have been scholarship donors and supporters for more than 25 years," said Delta College Superintendent/President Kathy Hart.

She also thanked College employees who participated in the extensive review and selection process.

The individual scholarship awards range from $100 to about $5,000. The awards honors students who have excelled in a wide variety of academic areas, as well as students who have overcome hardships or come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The awards can be used for registration fees or tuition, books, housing or other costs related to education.

Applications for the next round of Delta College scholarships will open in January. Potential donors who would like to establish new scholarships are welcome to do so. More information for students and donors is available at bit.ly/deltascholarships.
